NDP’s Stiles and Shailer join fight to save Strathroy’s obstetrics department

STRATHROY – Ontario NDP joined the fight in Strathroy to save the local obstetrics unit and keep births and maternal care in the community.

NDP Leader Marit Stiles, along with Lambton – Kent – Middlesex Ontario NDP candidate, Kathryn Shailer, joined Janet Humphrey, who launched a local petition to keep the unit open in Strathroy.

“No one should have to travel to a different town to give birth,” said Stiles. “It’s an important and vulnerable time where you need the best care possible close to home. Under Ford, rural communities like Strathroy are being left behind, forcing people to travel hours for essential care and services. This is unacceptable.”

“Ford and his Conservatives have made it pretty clear that our community’s concerns are not their priority,” said Shailer. “Having this unit closed will hurt families and will put people’s health at risk. This should be an absolute priority for this government. No one should have to drive hours away to deliver their child.”
